Depuis / ça fait
In expressions of time with ''for'' and ''since'', English uses the present perfect to indicate that an action that started in the past extends up to the present moment. French uses the PRESENT TENSE:
Elle fait du yoga depuis janvier (she has been practising yoga since January)
Nous nous connaissons depuis 2 ans (we have known each other for 2 years)
Cela fait une heure que j'attends! ( I have been waiting for an hour!)
