Since 1928, the Roland-Garros tennis club hosts one of the biggest international tennis tournaments. The best world tennis players meet in Paris to take part in the French Open, one of the four most important tennis tournaments in the world.
Precision, endurance and mental strength are the main technical qualities which the players must master in order to win. Throughout the years this sport has evolved a lot. The equipment has, but also the champions. On this photo, you can see the French Open winner in 1937, the German Henner Henkel. These gentlemen were playing in trousers and white polos and their rackets were not as light as the rackets nowadays! It is indeed Yannick Noah whom you can see on this photo. He hasn't got a microphone in front of him but a tennis ball, during a match played in the French Open! Because before being a singer, Yannick Noah was one of the best French tennis players in the 80's. He even won the French Open in 1983, beating the Sweedish player Matts Wilander. |
