"Active Reading" - ideas of focus:
There must be times (and many, hopefully!) when you read a French article for pure relaxation, without "working on it", because you are just interested in its content.
But at others, try and focus your reading on one of the aspects below, so that you get a lot out of your reading activity.

Highlilght and think about specific grammar points:
> verbs (what are their infinitive forms? what tense are they in?) > subjonctives (what has triggered them? why are they used here?) > adjectives (any which would look reaaally good in an essay?) > linking words (en revanche, d'ailleurs... This also helps you think about the development of an argument/a story) > pronoms (le/la/les; lui/leur; ce qui/ce que; auxquels/lesquels, etc Who are they referring to?) |
Write down some vocabulary:
> topic-specific (champs lexicaux - words belonging to the same theme) > idiomatic expressions > proverbs > familiar language |
Identify the register / tone:
> sarcastic / ironic > analytical > critical > evaluative > factual: statistics/quantities/chronological events |
