- Research one synonym and one antonym for a given word.
Equally, you can work on variations of a word: find the noun corresponding to
the verb (and vice versa), or the adjective corresponding to the noun (and vice
versa) where possible.
- For a given verb, look up its conjugation patterns in the different tenses (including the subjunctive mood)
- A good way to practise dictionary skills and sentence structure is to look up given verbs in a good traditional dictionary and write down some of the examples given. That way, you also learn the prepositions which go with the verbs. An advantage of doing this exercise is that if you copy the French and the English, you then have a bank of phrases to use for practising translation.
- Regular reading of articles in the target language will help your brain store words permanently in your active memory as you encounter them again and again.
