There are many free apps on the market but their quality is sometimes mediocre (full of language mistakes). The selection below aims to direct you to quality apps which will not be a waste of money or time.

Memrise is your dream personal language tutor. It combines
the most effective memorisation techniques with addictive gameplay. Memrise
uses flashcards augmented with mnemonics to boost the speed and ease of
learning. It was founded by neuroscientists specialising in the science of
memory and forgetting.

Duolingo has extensive amounts of vocabulary & grammar
and it covers all the areas of the language: reading, writing, listening and
pronunciation. Each lesson requires 17 correct answers to advance. You are
introduced new vocabulary through both speech and text, then are asked to
either translate words/sentences into English, or into French. There are also
picture recognition questions.

This app requires an active Vocab Express account. Ask your school or go to http://www.vocabexpress.com/individuals to subscribe as an individual. The Vocab Express app allows you to access your account from your mobile device. It gives you complete access to all your lists so you can learn vocabulary on the move.

All tenses, with all irregular verb forms highlighted. 4000+ words, sorted into different categories, 40 grammar articles, covering all French Grammar, 200 useful phrases. Exercises on all of the above, with a fun awards system which makes practising fun, with separate awards for the vocabulary, verbs, grammar, listening and speaking exercises.
Keep track of your progress by saving statistics and summaries of all done exercises, together with errors made.
